My lovely customers often ask me questions about my handcrafted sterling silver jewellery, and I have given my answers below. I hope you find this information useful.

What is the difference between sterling silver and silver-plated jewellery?

Sterling silver is a level of quality, characterised by its composition of 92.5% pure silver precious metal. This solid silver possesses exceptional durability and is an investment to enjoy for many years to come. Silver plated jewellery is a silver layer over a cheap base metal which will deteriorate over time and be more prone to imparting skin irritation.

How do I know that your jewellery is sterling silver?

My registered hallmark is ‘JBG’ and is applied for silver items over 7.78g along with a 925 mark. The hallmark means that the article has been independently tested for me by Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office and conforms to the legal standards of silver purity for sterling silver.

Furthermore, wherever I sell my jewellery either in person, or online, you will find the Dealer’s Hallmark notice displayed. This notice explains the approved hallmarks for precious metals, including sterling silver, and was produced by the British Hallmarking Council.

Is your jewellery eco-friendly?

Yes, I prioritise sustainability in my jewellery-making process. Whenever possible I use recycled sterling silver to make my pieces. Additionally, I love to repurpose elements into my jewellery, for example, glass and beads.

Will I have skin sensitivity to sterling silver?

Sterling silver is generally considered hypoallergenic. It should be noted that people with extreme sensitivities may still get some mild skin reaction.

Can I wear my sterling silver jewellery when swimming?

Given the robust nature of my solid silver items, you should be able to wear pieces during any daily activities, including swimming. I would, however, recommend rinsing in water after exposure to chemicals such as chlorine or salt water.

How do I clean my sterling silver jewellery?

Whilst specialist silver cleaning cloths and fluids are available, soaking your jewellery in lukewarm water with washing-up liquid and gently cleaning the detail with a soft toothbrush is recommended.

Do you make jewellery for men and women?

Yes, I design and craft pieces for both men and women and offer a range of items that are unisex.

Do you take commissions?

Yes, I am delighted to discuss your own designs and requirements and to work with you to make your ideal piece.

Do you provide bridal jewellery?

Yes, I am very happy to suggest pieces suitable for various occasion including weddings. For instance, I have a range of freshwater pearl pieces suitable for brides. Alternatively, I can discuss bespoke designs that cater to your specific preferences.
